Hakodate Park

Hakodate Park is a historic public park on the lower slopes of Mount Hakodate, rising above the Motomachi district, and one of the oldest Western-style parks in Japan. Laid out in 1879 with advice from foreign residents during the era when Hakodate was a pioneering international port, it reflects the city's early openness to outside ideas and has served generations of residents as a green retreat, a playground and, above all, a beloved place to view cherry blossom in spring.
