The restaurant sits at 94 Kamiichino-machi, in the Sanmachi Suji district near the heritage merchant houses at the northern end of the old town. Inside, the mood is that of a well-worn American-style diner reimagined in the Japan Alps: mismatched vintage furniture, old signs and knick-knacks on every surface, low lighting and a cozy, lived-in charm. It is a small space, which only adds to the friendly, informal atmosphere.

The star of the menu is, unsurprisingly, the Hida beef burger. Hida-gyu is Gifu Prefecture's premium wagyu, drawn from Japanese Black cattle raised in the Hida region and prized for its fine marbling, tenderness and sweet flavor, ranking among Japan's most respected beef brands alongside Kobe and Matsusaka. Center4 grinds and grills this luxury beef into a thick, juicy patty served on a soft bun with fresh toppings, delivering a burger that is rich and beefy in a way ordinary versions simply are not. The menu also runs to a range of original burgers, plus local fish and other dishes, and there is a selection of beer and cocktails to go with them.

A notable strength is how family- and traveler-friendly the place is. To get there, walk about fifteen minutes from Takayama Station, cross into the old town and continue north along Kamiichino-machi to number 94. It pairs well with the nearby sake breweries, the morning markets and a stroll through the preserved Sanmachi streets.
