Koeido is the historic Okayama confectioner most closely associated with kibi dango, the small, soft millet dumpling that is the prefecture's most iconic sweet and its classic edible souvenir. Founded in 1856, the company has spent well over a century refining and popularising the treat, and today operates several branches in and around JR Okayama Station and the central shopping district, making it the easiest place for visitors to pick up an authentic box.

Kibi dango's fame is inseparable from folklore. The dumpling is a chewy, mochi-like sweet made from glutinous rice combined with millet, syrup, and sugar, and it is bound up with the legend of Momotaro, the 'Peach Boy' hero said to have been born and to have set off on his demon-quest from this region. In the tale, Momotaro carries kibi dango to win the loyalty of the dog, monkey, and pheasant who join his adventure, and the pun between 'Kibi', the old name for the Okayama area, and 'kibi', millet, cements the sweet's local identity.
